Silicone Primer

Overview
Silicone primer is a special primer designed for bonding double-sided tape to high-temperature vulcanized silicone rubber products. Since silicone rubber is a non-polar material, conventional adhesives often fail to achieve satisfactory bonding results.
This primer is specially developed for surface treatment of silicone rubber. It can effectively improve the surface polarity of silicone rubber and greatly enhance bonding performance. In addition, the treated silicone rubber achieves good results for painting and screen printing. When applied to high-temperature silicone sheets followed by lamination with double-sided tape, the tape can firmly adhere to the silicone substrate.

Performance Specifications
1. Appearance: Colorless, transparent organic solution with low viscosity
2. Stability: 1-year shelf life at ambient temperature; neutral, non-corrosive to iron packaging drums

Technical Data
Viscosity: 2–5 cps
Solid content: ≥50%
Color: Transparent
Compliance Standard: SGS

Instructions for Use
1. Wipe contaminants (oil, release agent, etc.) off the bonding surface of the silicone rubber substrate with toluene.
2. Apply the primer onto the pretreated substrate by printing, brushing or spraying, and keep the coating as uniform as possible.
3. Place the coated sheet on a rack for air drying at room temperature:
- Fast-dry type: 5–15 minutes
- Slow-dry type: 30–60 minutes
Prevent dust contamination during drying.
4. After complete drying, apply double-sided tape and press through a laminator.

Application Scope
Silicone primer is widely used for backing double-sided tape on silicone rubber foot pads, silicone ornaments, trademarks, labels and other silicone parts.
Compatible double-sided tapes include 3M 9080, 3M 9448, Nitto 5000NS, SONY T4000, SONY T4720, tesa 4940, etc.

Precautions
1. Seal the bottle cap tightly after use.
2. Flammable. Keep away from fire and heat sources; store in a cool and dry place.
3. Excess primer can be cleaned with a cloth dipped in thinner.
4. Shake well before use for better performance. 3–5% curing agent may be added for stronger bonding strength if required.
